Do you take proper care of your gums? If not, we are happy to help you do so! Caring for your gums isn’t much different than caring for your teeth, so don’t worry about spending extra time deeply cleaning your oral tissues. But, we do want to make sure you understand how important it is to maintain healthy gums. If you neglect gum care, you are vulnerable to gum disease, which is an unfortunate and painful condition that can eventually result in loose and lost teeth. So, to help you prevent this disease, we strongly encourage you do to the following:
Brush
Brushing is a very beneficial technique that helps clean the plaque off your teeth each day. If you use a soft-bristled toothbrush and if you brush at least twice a day, you will have a better chance at having strong and healthy gums.
Floss
If you floss your smile at least once a day, the plaque will be removed from the hard-to-reach places in the mouth, like between your teeth. Flossing also deeply cleans along the gum line, which will help your gums stay in tip-top shape.
Rinse
Rinse your mouth with mouthwash daily. If you can, rinse with anti-gingivitis mouthwash. This rinse will deeply clean your smile, kill the plaque on your teeth, and strengthen and nourish your gums. Simply sip a small amount of rinse into your mouth, swish it around, and spit in into the sink after 30-40 seconds, or after the amount of time suggested on the mouthwash label.
Attend your dental checkups
It is strongly recommended that you visit your dentist every six months, and one of the main reasons why is to prevent gum disease. Even though you remove plaque from your smile everyday by brushing, flossing, and rinsing, the most successful and only way to completely remove plaque is by the techniques and tools provided by the dental office and team. During your cleaning, your hygienist or dentist will scrape the surfaces of your teeth with a special tool and will completely clean your entire smile. This is the best way to care for your gums and prevent gum disease.
