Clear aligners like Invisalign, are removable form of clear plastic braces. They continue to grow in popularity for adults that seek cosmetically appealing options for dealing with minor teeth alignment issues.

At the initial consultation your dentist will take X-rays and make an impression to get a better idea of your personal bite pattern and your realignment goals. This is then sent to the Clear Correct lab where they generate a series of clear plastic aligner trays. These aligners will provide a custom fit to match your teeth and personal bite pattern.

For maximum effect and shortest duration of treatment you will need to wear the aligners for around 20 to 22 hours each day. Every two weeks you will change new set plastic aligners that are slightly different than the previous one. The total time you’ll need to wear aligners will vary by your goals. In most cases the total treatment time lasts around six to eight weeks.

You will need to remove the aligner trays before eating. Biting down on anything hard can damage the plastic aligners. You should also avoid chewing gum with the aligners in. If an aligners is damaged a replacement set to be made which would increase the total duration of treatment. You can drink normally while wearing the aligners.

Be sure to maintain your typical oral hygiene regimen of brushing and flossing through the duration of the realignment process. Rinse the aligners with an antiseptic mouthwash to help reduce any bacterial build-up.
