Dry mouth is a common dental issue that involves the inability to produce the proper amount of saliva. This problem can be dangerous for the smile because without saliva, bacteria, food particles, and other harmful substances won’t be washed away regularly and the acid in the mouth won’t be neutralized. These things can promote dental problems, like tooth decay development. So, it’s best to treat your dry mouth right away. To help you do so, our dentists, Dr. Frederick Stark and Dr. Brad Norden, have some recommendations for you. It’s best to do the following things:

-Drink plenty of water (If possible, sip on water throughout the day.)

-Chew sugar-free gum or suck on sugar-free candies regularly (This can increase your saliva flow.)

-Avoid drinking beverages that have caffeine (Caffeine tends to cause dry mouth.)

-Breathe through your nose more often than through the mouth

-Stop smoking (Smoking is a major culprit of dry mouth.)

-Rinse your mouth with mouth rinse daily (It’s recommended to avoid using mouth rinse that contains alcohol.)
