How To Help Your Child Prevent Dental Issues

Posted .

As your child grows into the strong, healthy, and beautiful smile they deserve, the best thing you can do is help them prevent dental issues. But how do you do that? Well, we are thrilled to help you! If you do the following three things, your child will have the best chance at having a strong and successful oral health:

Begin an oral hygiene routine early
Before your child’s teeth grow into place, clean their gums with a clean gauze pad or washcloth. Cleaning the gums will help wash away the plaque that waits to attack your child’s chompers.

Care for the teeth
Once the teeth erupt, make sure you scrub them twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. We also encourage you to gently floss the teeth at least once a day when two teeth grow in next to each other.

Be careful with bottle feedings
Baby bottle tooth decay is real, and it develops when you put sugary drinks and sodas into your child’s bottle. So, please only put milk, baby formula, and breast milk into the bottle and make sure your child finishes the beverage before they take a nap or go to bed.

If you need help with any of the mentioned tasks, please remember that you can always call Derby Family Dentistry at 316-788-4000 and schedule an appointment with Dr. Frederick Stark and Brad Norden. We are here to help you with anything you need, and we look forward to your call!
